Topper 12 gauge barrel fitting
« on: June 13, 2011, 04:09:57 AM »
Hey guys,
Came across a new Topper 12 gauge. I'm wondering if this barrel is compatible and can be fitted to my late model SB2 frame without major mods? I understand that I cant safely mount CFs on SB1s, but is there a post that that lists which barrels and which frames are interchangeable... Early CF barrels to Late SB2 receivers, early shotgun barrels to late SB1 and SB2 receivers?
Thanks,
JY

H&R's accessory barrel info states what barrels can be used on what frames, the sticky near the top of this forum on second hand barrel fitting answers the rest of your question.

Thanks Tim.

Also, thanks for moving my barrel "wanted" ad to the correct category.

I read H&R's acc site several times.

Spanky confirmed that the 10 gauge barrel wont fit on the SB2 receiver.
The Handi 10 gauge barrel is out.

So, is the bottom line...
Any barrel, old or new, originally on an SB1 or SB2 frame, except 10s and 12 ultra slugs, can be fitted on any newer SB2 frame???

H&R only sells new, modern barrels. I was worried that some of the older SB1 fitted barrels, i.e 44, Topper 12s, cant be fitted on the newer style SB2 receivers.

I'm curious to know why the 10 gauge barrel wont fit on an SB2 receiver? Is the 10 gauge barrel's diameter simply too fat to fit on the SB2 frame? I read one post on here that said the 10 gauge was just be a drilled out 12 gauge. I know now that its not.

The reason I am asking is that I made my own chamber adapters in 12, 16, and 20 gauge to use in my 10 gauge Dickson-Falcon single barrel. I'm thinkin' maybe I can ream out the Topper 12 gauge barrel just a bit to fit my adapters.

I'm now a proud owner of a bare 270 Handi, scoped Survivor 308, new Topper 12, and a 243 standard contour barrel. Cant wait til they all get here so I can start the additional mandatory 10 day background check.

Just 're-turn' the adapter ODs to the smaller gauge and be good to go, unless you have to keep them in 10ga.

I was thinking of that, but the adapters would be paper thin if I turn them. Plus, if I ream the barrel, I can shoot 10 gauge in the the topper 12 gauge barrel too. Do you think it will blow up if I only shoot 2-7/8" 10 gauge shells?

10ga/12gaUSH barrels have 1.2" diameter chamber swells and will only fit SB2 shotgun frames, all other barrels have 1.1" chamber swells.
