A 9-year-old boy in the village of Pilot Station was shot and killed Friday afternoon during an argument with another 9-year-old boy, Alaska State Troopers reported on Sunday.
The shot came from what troopers described as "a high-powered .17 caliber pellet rifle." The other boy fired the air rifle while the two were having an argument, and the round hit the child in the chest, troopers said...........

Thats why I don't let my grandchildren "play" with any gun, even a BB gun.  They can take it out, but they must treat is like any gun, big or small.

Sad event. I have been using high end German and English air guns for over 30 years. I was taught they were just as deadly as a "real" firearm. Over the years air gun technology has advanced and there are plenty of example of air powered guns being extremely powerful.We have air rifles that can and have taken large game animals.
I gave my Beeman FWB 124D .177 plenty of respect and there is no doubt that it could inflict death or serious harm on people. It still bothers me that other shooters still treat these air powered guns as children's toys and have the attitude "well its only a pellet/BB gun".

 I remember seeing the news story out of AK a few years ago where a man drove a moose out of his yard by shooting it with a gamo breakbarrel .177 pellet rifle. The moose collapsed 1/4 mile away(still in town) and died. Yup, pellet guns, especially modern one, deserve lots of respect.  J

My brother had a moronic woman that he was dating about 12 years ago who was playing with a Sheridan 22 cal pellet gun at a party (yes alcohol was involved). I was walking through the yard as I saw her aim it at me laughing. She hit me 2" left of my breast bone 1" from nipple. Yep right over heart...  Had a small dimple where it hit a little blood and tore hole in my shirt, did not feel good... I assumed that it bounced off a rib.  I had an exit physical when I switched jobs and a chest x-ray... Needless to say it was in there and showed a perfect pellet side shot, no deformation. It's still in there and I have a copy of the x-ray which I showed to my brother and punched him in the chest.... Had a couple x-rays since and it has actually moved around quite a bit.
