.45 acp softballs- anyone have pressure info?
« on: December 18, 2011, 04:29:10 AM »
Dear Guys,

My understanding is that a .45 auto softball load generally consists of a 185 grain bullet, travelling at about 750 fps.

But, does anyone know how much pressure (in psi) these types of loads create in the chamber?  And, how this pressure compares to the pressure of a standard mil-spec hardball load?

  Thanks for all info.

Manny:  Winchester rates its 'softball', or target load using a 185 gn wadcutter full metal case at 765'/sec to 11,500 CUP.  The mil-spec loading of a 230 gn fmc at 850'/sec is rated at 17,000 CUP.  I couldn't tell you psi ratings but they are in the same comparative ballpark with the target or softball loading being a lower pressure load.  HTH.
