Am interested in what you find out with the VLD's.
No doubt they'll be accurate.

well i shot the first group today with a max load of RL19. the group was over an inch at 100 yards. i'm going to try a IMR4831 next and see if it is better. the bullet is seated far out of the case but i can still get it in the magazine.

i shot the imr 4831 load today and 3 out of 4 shots were touching. i don't know to keep going and try the rl22 and imr4350 powders or stop where i'm at. i'll decide later.

PJ,
You may want to take a look at Alliant website for RL-17 loads.

I don't believe the VLD's are really the ticket for medium game. I too have no 6mm, so don't really have any more info.

On the Berger website, they do list an 87 grain "hunting" bullet in VLD for 6mm. This should be an excellent choice for coyotes and deer.

There was an article on Berger VLD'S hunting bullets in either Rifle or Handloader magazine a couple of years ago on feral goats in New Zealand. They worked like magic. Seems like 25 calibers were shot but don't remember about the 6mm.
I would not hesitate to use them on deer.

My boys, nephews and I have used the Berger VLDs in several calibers and various weights on whitetails. All results have been more than satisfactory. We haven't used the new 87 grain 6mm offering, but the 95's are sure nuff deer killers.

ok i know it's been a while since i started this post. well i took a doe with the 6mm 87 grain vld. the doe was about 100 yards out and i made a head shot on her. naturally she dropped like a bag of rocks so it might not have been a good test, but they are accurate enough for me to feel comfortable in making that shot. it literally took the side of her head off. the hole was big enough to put my fist through. i also noticed that every bone in her head was broken. i could hear the bones moving as i loaded her into the truck. it was pretty devastating. i'll have to wait and try them on a body shot.
