Any 2004 Remington Classic news?
« on: December 27, 2003, 05:17:33 PM »
Has anyone heard any news/rumors on what the 2004 Remington Classic is going to be chambered in?
I'd like to see a .358 Win and a .416 R.Mag some year.
Anyone else have a wish?

Voting is still ongoing on the site. Don't recall what round is in the lead right now (maybe .260 Rem.?) but am not sure what if any impact the vote will have really. For sure the 8x57 ain't real high up but probably would be a good choice.

I saw on another site that Remington confirmed it would be the 8x57. Now if they ever makeon in .260 I'll scoop it up in  a heart beat.

The .300 UltraMag has a pretty good lead right now. The .35 would be interesting, not many made in a bolt for a loooong time. There isn't even a listing in my Nosler reloading book! The .358 is a much better caliber.

The new classic is chambered in 8x57 and there are already a couple here in the local gunshops.  Broke my heart too because i want a 260 Rem bad and was hoping that would be the 04 chambering for the classic.

somebody did something right for that cartridge.  Now, if they are gonna do it in 8x57, let's hope they put the right twist in the barrel and with the right contour for lotsa shootin',  and if it is successful maybe they might offer it in the 6.5 Swede next year (with a shorter action for the 260 if ya hafta)..  Just my 2 cents worth.  Mikey.

Hogfan:  thanks man, now I have two problems (1) when to go lookin' at the classics and (2) when to buy one - of course, that leads to the third problem - which one to buy first.  I'll work on it.  Mikey.

The 35 Remmington would be great - but only if they shorten the action, shorten the barrel, and lighten up the stock.  What a classic it would be!

Voting is going on in the offical remington site.  300 ultra mag is way in the lead.  I say we need to get together and vote for the 8mm muaser.  It deserves more that that new comer round

A classic rifle deserves a classic cartridge. Ultra mag ain't no classic but it sure seems to be getting the votes. Nor is the 260. Doubt they'd go for a Winchester cartridge though I think the 358 would be a good one, especially since it's seeing a resurgence in the new Browning BLR line-up. 8mm mauser would be a good one and I think the 350 rem mag could use another swing at the bat but this time in a full length rifle. Actually a 358 short action ultra mag would be an interesting cartridge.

Um, I guess no one read my post the Classic is in 8x57 this year (2004). Some have already showed up in stores. So the official chamber is 8x57!

Model 700™ Classic

Chambered in 8mm Mauser (8x57mmS), the 2004 Model 700 Classic becomes the 24th offering in this Limited Edition series. Recognized as the German military rifle cartridge during both World Wars the 8mm Mauser received little recognition with U.S. hunters, though long a favorite of European hunters and gunmakers. Following World War II, surplus 8mm military rifles in the United States increased the use and popularity of this medium to big game cartridge.

The Model 700 Classic bolt-action rifle features a traditional American walnut, straight-combed "Classic" style stock with low-gloss, satin finish, crisp-cut checkering and swivel studs. Adding to the distinguished appearance of this Model 700 is the clean 24-inch high polished, blued carbon steel barrel and long action receiver. The hinged floor plate magazine has a capacity of four plus one in the chamber. Dating back to 1981, the impressive list of one-year limited edition Model 700 Classics has included many of the truly great centerfire chamberings.

HogFan is right the voting is over.  Go to http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/700classic.htm and see for yourself.  For next year I would like to see something like the .284 Win. in a classic.  Lawdog

Lawdog,

Now that would be a classic, but I don't see Remington doing a Winchester cartridge. Maybe a 260? I'd buy that.

Why not?   :?   They did a Savage cartridge(.300 Savage).  Classic is a classic no matter who designed it.  The .260 is to new to be considered a classic but now a 6.5mm Swede would be nice.  They may have already done the Swede as I don't keep up with the big green all that much.  Lawdog

8mm mauser a good choice however that Remington vote sure must have swung the 8 mm way in the final few days because 300 RUM and 260 had substantial leads not to long ago. Hmm? :? . . .  Glad it did though.

Remington has expanded the Classic line, now also offering the Classic CDL (Deluxe). Beautiful rifle, with the ebony tipped fore-end, but no gaudy white spacers. Not available in 260 (yet), but is available in 7-08.

:agree:  I voted for the 8mm Mauser. I was in the minority of votes but I think Rem already had their mind made up on calibres, just wanted to poll the readers.
