Encore Weathershield question
« on: May 05, 2011, 08:48:25 AM »
Now I have another TC question. Are the new Weathershield Encores Stainless with a WS coating, or regular blued steel with Weathershield. I've read a couple "road tests" on various Weathershield TC's and a couple say they're SS, others say no, and TC hasn't responded to my direct inquiry. Figure the guru's on here would probably know....   ;)

I got a TC Impact a couple of weeks ago it is blued with the weather sheild.  I could see how at a glance or inexperieced eye how it could look like SS.  For a short time TC advertised the Impact in SS but talking to the fun store owner where I shop it was a misprint.  I think the web site guru for TC doesn't know either.

My guess its neither Stainless Steel or Blued Steel, the priced tells me it the cheapest way to finish chrome-moly with a covering.

Gents, I have a Pro-Hunter, with a 28 inch SS .50 cal ML barrel, my buddy has a Pro -Hunter XT, with a 28 inch SS .50 cal ML barrel, so, is his not the same barrel as mine, but with the Weather Shield, treatment?? His barrel is a darker shade of silver compared to mine. The 2011 cataloge, on page 23, states, that it is SS, is that the misprint, you are referring to? Thks Alex

If you look at the chart on page 23 of the catalog It shows a item number for stainless steel pro hunter XT as either #5722 for a SS with black stock or #5724 for SS and AP camo.  It also lists Item number #5744 for Weather Shield with black stock or #5743 for Weather Shield with AP camo. So you can get either a stainless steel or a weather shield pro hunter XT. As I understand it  the difference betweeen a pro hunter and a pro hunter XT Is the breach plug design of the endeavor barrel on the Pro hunter XT. As far as the difference between your gun and his it depends on whether his is the weather shield version or stainless steel.

The misprint I was referring to was one the website under inline ml under the Impact.  It used to state stainless with weathersheild now just says weathersheild.  Thats why I thought it wasn't stainless but blued instead.  But I may be wrong. It very well could be chrom moly covered up.  Not that it matters to me so much, the price is right and it looks and shoots good.

Thanks, kctibs, for the clarification on the misprint.....

TRM-1, thanks, for pointing out the different options....Mine, with the SS barrel is T/C model 3974...his is model 5743, so his is probably, not a SS barrel, but the chrom moly...
Mine has the 7523 breech plug and his has the  XT breech plug, 7542.......Alex
