finally got my first one
« on: December 28, 2003, 01:41:45 PM »
We’ll I guess I’m lagging behind here but I finally took my first handgun buck on CHRISTmas eve while hunting on family land back home in Mississippi.

A 160# 2.5 year old 5 point. Not a real monster but at least I broke the ice. It was a 55 yard shot with a 475 Linebaugh iron sighted 6 inch FA from a ground blind. (410gr WFNGC over 21gr H4227). The bullet passed through both sides of the deer and took out a golf ball size chunk of wood out of a maple tree 5 feet opposite side of the deer. As far as I know that bullet is still going. It took two shots: The first shot was two inches high of center shoulder muscle and the second was three inches lower 3 inches left of center shoulder towards the rib cage. He remained standing after the first shot but the second crumpled him down. He made it back to his feet and ran about 50 yards to a creek bottom then expired.

My friend, a taxidermist, took in seven really nice bucks over Christmas week. The deer were moving well in our area that week. Two of those seven were in the 155” b&c green scores. This is quite impressive for our area in the Magnolia state.

I hope everyone else had an enjoyable eventful Holliday season.

Good luck and be safe.
Scott

nice buck, good shots, congradulations. and now for the sad part, you are hooked and there is no known cure, you'll just have to learn to live with it,but on the bright side it only requires a small amount of feeding as the rest is anticapation and preparation. :D
if you need to add politically to the word correct, it isn't!
