Pics of SCI Gold medal red deer and fallow???
« on: January 31, 2004, 09:04:46 AM »
Hi All,

I'm planning a hunt in TX for red deer and fallow.  Can anyone please post pics of Red deer that score >350SCI and fallow >250SCI if you have them?  I've been looking for animals of this trophy quality and would like to see what you folks may have.  I cannot travel outside the country, so, will have to "settle" on TX.

Many thanks!

Doug

Really nice Sika Doug. Who were you hunting with when you took that one?

Hi GB,

I hunted with Ken Wilson of Sportsman-on-Film fame at the Galloway Ranch in Pearsol TX.  He scores 139 3/8SCI and is a top ten.  We saw him everyday and looked at him and kinda agreed that we could take him anytime we wanted to.  So....I shot a blackbuck, corsican, ibex and axis and then decided I had more credit and we found him laying in an open field with some elk.  I told Ken that I just couldn't shoot him like this, so, we waited till they got up.  A good 20 minutes later, the elk got nervous and off they went and the chase was on.  Into some thick stuff and we NEVER saw him again for the last 6 hours of that day.  Next morning I had to be at the airport in San Antonio by 11am.  We got up at 5am went searching for him.. Ken said that we could hunt till about 8:30 and then we would have to leave for the airport.  We looked and looked till 8am and then on a feeder we saw some whitetail and one really dark deer as well.  It was HIM...and we stalked and I shot and now he's hang'n here in Massachusetts!

I greatly enjoy the site!

No doubt he is one exceptional sika. I'd have had to have pulled the trigger on him too. I'd like to add a nice sika but most I've seen so far just haven't made me want to shoot.

I have Ken's videos on hunting exotics. Enjoy them much.

Hi GB,

Ken's a great guy and the big debowski sika are all over TX.  I've never seen one as big anywhere in the north east.  I'm actually looking for a japanese sika which is the smallest of the species, and coal black.  Their antlers are very tiny though and a good trophy is around 20".

IF my red deer- fallow hunt falls through because we cannot find animals of the high trophy quality that I want (and I do ship the meat home, but I do not travel from Boston to TX to hunt trophies that I can get here), I'll search for another sika.

I do love exotics!
