2117s help
« on: March 22, 2011, 07:54:16 AM »
ok guys ive been reading about tip weight and arrow spine. read this and tell me what you think .
for a 35 to 40 # bow a 2117 arrow at 33 1/4 back of point. the arrow should weigh 397gr. +or-
to spine right for this poundage. does this sound right . im trying to use these arrows with a old 60in. fiberglass 35# semi recurve camp bow for turkey this spring season. the arrows fly to pretty close to where i point but wage left and right a good bit. sticking out of targer left and right depending on how far from target i am . im pulling this bow at 28 3/4 to outside of the bow. im going to try to get to the bow shop soon to see if this works. just thought i would ask the ?s here first. you guys n gals have been playing with the stick n string stuff and know more than most.
so ill hear what you all have to say and give it a try. cause i personaly have no clue but im trying to learn  :-[ ???.
as always thanks for any and all info
im stuck with these arrows and want to try whatever will make them fly straight

overall wieght really doesn't have much to do with spine.  If it was a compound I would tell you to paper tune it, but unless you are shooting off of a rest and not the shelf you are gonna get side to side "Kick"  I honestly think that the 150's will underspine the arrow.  If he has then try shooting groups with any wieght heads that you can get.  Usually you can also tell whether you are under/over spined by how they hit left or right of centre but from the sounds of it they are going both ways.

i was thinking y not just use the bearcat also. i  just had this 35 # bow laying around for years figured i would set it up for small gaming.  ended up bidding on these 2117s  for the bearcat cause the guy i bought it from said 2117 or 2216s  will work fine but he has shorter draw length than me.  i was on eastmans shaft chart and found out if i cut these to 31 they should work for 34 to 38 pound bows with 125 or 150 heads. im drawing this bow to 28 3/4 outside of bow so the 31 should give me plenty of clearance for whatever heads i end up using. so ill try having one cut down next time im at shop. see what happens

yea im shooting from shelf its a old indian archery model 25  35# fiberglass semirecurve i think thats what they call it not a full recurve and not a longbow either somewhere in between [semirecurve] ???

im thinking i should just put the other 2 bows away and focus on shooting the bearcat. i just thought i would get a few arrows together for the other 2 bows. so if my better half or buddy was interested in shooting with me there would be a extra bow here. i had 3 trophy hunter carbon 400s at 30 1/2 with vanes i tried them also with the 35# they flew ok but the vanes bumped them up n down so i had him strip them and put some feathers on them see what happens when i go down to pick them up might work with the bearcat if not the 35#er for target they are not long enough to put broad heads on. its trial n error till i get this all figured out if ever. seems you can tweak any arrow to get it to fly ok but need the right arrow to get it to fly right .
i just ordered a set of no gloves for the bows yesterday going to give them a try might work out good insted of tab or finger glove . was looking at muskrat string silencers also supposed to be better in wet weather sprayed 3 of the arrows feathers with camp dry going to let them dry and air out then put them away for deer season in case i get caught in the rain might help out a lil
who knows not me but im learning  :-[ ;D

If you are completly new to the game, and you do plan on hunting this fall I would just stick with the bow that you intend to use.  If you want one for big game and a lighter pull for small game/bird,  then work with your big game bow often until you are completely comfortable with it.  then work in the lighter one,  also will help to break up the monotony of working with one bow.  If you feel your self starting to break form, or doing something wrong,  stop,  put the bow down and walk away for a few hours.....or days,  there is nothing worse than starting a bad habit now, then trying to break of it later.
