i did it scout
« on: March 11, 2011, 09:28:55 PM »
 ;D ;D
i just got it finished its not perfect but feels nice and its  tight
i did put a few wraps of black tape on the grip first when i got all the gunk off i saw this bows 2 pieces finger spliced ill call it .
i did not know that. i  thought it was one piece . guess the glue joint is stronger ?.
just slid the arrow rest or whats left of it under the leather still looking for one
was thinking of which way to put the leather and thought rough side out was more comfortable
yea your right i need to get the right string it relaxed on my buddys bow to 7 1/4 but not going to get to the right length for 6 1/2 brace  going to order the right string soon. put this one back on the 35# fiberglass bow
i checked how far i pull this and its right at 28 i hunch my head forward a lil to get my anchor it feels comfortable
you said you thought that this was a 25 or 26 draw. so if i pull it at 28 that should add a few around 6#s maybe
so that makes ill say 30 32#s maybe ?. im thinking of looking for some light carbons i know they should be PO wood but i think i want carbons for durability. but im sure ill end up getting a few woodies for this bow some day
not to bad for first grip. i used old b-50 string to sew it up its not a pretty sew job :-[ :-[
it will work for now till i get some nice thick sinew or lace. then ill try another didn't want to even post a pic of the sew job that bad. its my first rodeo and i got thrown for sure  ;D ;D

Good job Man! I thought about that also, if the bow is 25# @ 26" then you are pulling some more pounds at your draw. The reason I suggest cedar is because good wood arrows in lower spine weights is alot more available than carbon or aluminum. Check out the adds on ebay wooden arrows. You will be surprised at what you find. scout4<><

Good job b44mag! Hey there's some dandy lookin wood in that old longbow! Did you check anywhere for cedar arrows? I shoot bows of lighter draw weight, and I've tried numerous times shooting carbon arrows and aluminum, and these kind of arrows just will not shoot well for me out of the lower draw weight bows. The cedar arrows however shoot beautiful! Especially from bows without arrow shelves and sight window cutouts, where the archers paradox is more extreme. scout4<><

This was the 4th honest outdoors shot from my new Polaris on that morning. Cedar arrow, made a little longer with a 145grain point. My bow pulls 35#.  scout4<><

Ya know b44mag, I do not always shoot good. I've had my ups an downs with it, but shooting these bows is what I like! I was trying to show you the difference with a cedar arrow out of a low poundage bow compared to carbon or aluminum. If you get arrows that fly right you will be more accurate. The old longbow is a dandy! Good shooting with it! scout4<><
