Winchester model 63
« on: March 11, 2011, 03:47:44 AM »
Good morning to you all, My friend just inherited his dads winchester model 63 semi-auto 22 rifle. He said it shoots dime size groups at 75 yards.
I know these guns are really in demand and bring high prices but I've never owned one. Is this normal accuracy for them?  :o

Regards,

A Winchester Model 63, MAY, be able shoot a dime size group at 75 yards, ONCE IN A WHILE. If the shooter and the rifle are up to the task.

It will also depend on what sights the shooter used, to shoot that outstanding group with.

If the shooter used open sights, that would be extremely doubtful.

With the Caveat, it may do it with a brand of ammunition the rifle really likes, ONCE IN A WHILE. But, not with ALL brands of 22 LR ammunition. And, with a shooter who really knows what he is doing.

I wouldn't say your friend is stretching the truth, but I have serious doubts about his veracity. I would ask the shooter, in a friendly way, to prove it, while I watched.

Why do I know this? I have two Winchester Model 63 rifles.

Bill, thats the reason for the question to try and find out if this is common with winchester 63s.

The rifle is scoped, and my friend has shot several brands of ammo. So far it has prefered CCI MiniMags. I've hunted with my friend from florida to alaska and montana to new mexico. I know he is a excelent shot. Actually what I was hopeing for was not for someone to call my friend a liar but for others to tell me what their rifles would do. I just wonder if this rifle is exceptional or average. I know I used to own a belgium browning 22 semi-auto that was that accurate.  :o
