My 45-120 Mannlicher Stock
« on: March 03, 2011, 09:42:23 AM »
I have owned alot of rifles by different companies, but this one is by far my favorite Rifle.A few years ago I rechambered it myself to 45-120.It also had a short life as a 45-90 which I also did myself.I've always wanted it to have a Mannlicher stock so I took last month to give her one.The stock is from Gunstock Inc. very happy with two pieces of wood he shipped. They came out beautiful. The finishing kit I used is Miles Gilbert #5.The forend is by far the toughest part of finishing this stock. The recoil pad that I got with the stock is a LimbSaver 1".The rear sight is an XS Low Weaver Back-Up Sight, and the scope is a Nikon Monarch 1.5x4.5x20 which is no longer made.I will post more pic when it gets nicer outside 30 just doesn't cut it.The stock is darker, but the sun shows the grain.

Looks like a very nice job and the Limbsaver was a +.
The 120 can take full advantage of it.
Still haven't gotten around to opening mine up yet.
One day!

Very nice job!  When the weather improves, please post your targets and load info.   What is your barrel length?

Thanks Guys I appreciate it.Last couple years I've been using heavy bullets 400 to 525 cast bullets with 5744,but this year I'm giong to use 300 or 350 Barnes TSX bullets over Accurates 5744 with my scope.I'll let you guys know accurate they are.The barrel is 22",but it has about 18" or so of rifling.

Awesome... beautiful.  Nice scope doesn't overpower the gun.  You said doing the forend was the hardest part.  Got any tips because I slowly doing a GSI mannlicher set my self.  Any ideas are always welcome.

Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

RDLange the forend wasn't easy.Which ever file and sandpaper your going to use take little off at a time alittle does make a difference. This is my first one trial and error mostly, but check the forend to the barrel often.I found that the factory screw worked better than the one he sends with it(its alittle longer),but I might have took to much off at the screw hole.So when your done see which screw works best.I may do another one some where down the road, but for now I'm just glad this one came out right.
