44/454 JDJ
« on: March 04, 2011, 02:01:12 PM »
Hey guys, any of you ever rechamber a 44 Mag. to the 44/454 JDJ or any other 454 wildcat?  Im thinking this may be a better way to go than the 445 SM.  SM brass being difficult to find and 454 brass easily obtained, makes this a good choice, I think.  If so how did it shoot, recoil, ease of reloading?

Depending on the pressure it operates at, it's not suitable for an SB1 frame if it runs 454 pressures, even the 445 SM is marginal on an SB1,  the 444/454 would require an SB2 frame. Good luck finding a reamer for it, SSK won't touch an H&R barrel for rechambering if they do that one.
