I recently purchased one of the new FN Winchester Model 70's and the safety is LOUD when you switch it from safe to fire. Does anyone know a way to soften the click at all?

The safety is retained in position by a spring loaded plunger. If you are capable of disassembling the safety mechanism and restoring it to working order after then perhaps a bit of a good synthetic grease (wide temp range) would help.. Perhaps I might suggest simply restraining the safety lever as it's moved to the fire position. If quiet is needed slow is a good thing anyway. If speed is an issue the tiny snick of a safety won't be noticed anyway...

I have one in 270wsm, and mine is noisy too.. what I do is release it with 2 fingers (thumb and index finger) instead of just flipping it.. its a lot quieter if you do it that way.. a little practice with that method, and it will seem natural.. Bob
