It says they shall either approve or deny within 30 days. But I think whenever they get around to it is more realistic. They haven't increased their staff from the tax increase yet. ::)

If you need it for a specific date, I would apply way early. It's handy to go to a store that takes your picture and everything, but a lot of times they put all the applications in an envelope and mail it at their convenience.

The good news is they're good for ten years now instead of five.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Thanksa for the link, Grimjim.  My S-I-L doesn't need it by a specific date, as long as he has it by deer season.
I read through it and saw that blackpowder users are required to have a FOID. When did that go into effect? When I useed to shoot black powder back in the 80's no FOID was needed.

Foid is 60 days behind at this writing which is not too bad since you have till Nov.

What you really need to do is to have the S-I-L mail it in himself. If he would have it mailed by a vendor "Walmart, Walgreen etc" they will hold them till they have x amount to send in. Worse yet, if there is just one mistake on one application they will ALL be send back to the vendor by FOID as the bundle that they recieve is treated as a specific lot.

He sent it in already. He told me about it last weekend but I have no idea when he actually dropped it in the mail. Next time I talk to him I'll tell him to expect it in a couple of months.
Thanks for the input everybody.
