Rem 700VS vs. 700P

Other than a parkerized finish, an extra swivel stud and $100 on the Police model, what is the difference?

My gunsmith claims the P is finished to tighter tollerances.    You can't have a cop shooting the wrong person on a count of bad accuracy now, can you?

Whether it is true or not remains to be seen.  I do know that my P is a tack driver....much better than the VS model I once had.  However, I also like to think I am a better shooter as well and maybe that explains the improvement.

Found out the difference in the below link. There is None! except for some subtle difference in the HS Precision stock.

Well okay, I read the link.  Interesting!

However, whenever I read things on the internet, I remind myself that there are only two things that are absolute in life: death and taxes.  Everything else...well ???.  What I am saying is that just because somebody wrote an article for the internet does not, in itself, mean the information is absolutely correct.  Unless I read a good definition of the difference from the manufacturer, it remains a big question mark to me.

I found the palm swell on the P stock a little too big to hold comfortably. Personally I would go with the VS. KN

Remington has a section on their web site that lets you 'ask the experts a question'. If you really want to know the difference I'd ask them directly and see what they say.

A buddy of mine asked Remington what the difference was besides the stock and they told him that the parts are hand picked for quallity. But I gotta tell ya his police rifle don't shoot any better than my VS.   KN

Thanks for the tip helobill. I submitted a question after finding the right place. (it's a busy web sight).

One difference I did notice when comparing the VS at the main Rem. Site and the P(PSS) at the Law Enforcement Site is that the .223 on the police version has a 1:9 twist and the varmit vers. has 1:12.(that's a pretty significant diff.). Both 308's (my interest) are 1:12. There is also a couple of versions of the police including a chambering in 300 ultra mag.

From: Remington

The primary difference between these two models is the
reinforcement in the fore end for using a bipod in the
700P.  The Police models also go through additional
quality checks since they are used as duty weapons.
They should stabilize mid-range to heavy bullets.  We
hope this information is helpful and we appreciate your
loyal support of Remington products.
