forearm question
« on: February 13, 2011, 06:01:04 AM »
Is the forearm on the Buffalo classic 38-55 longer than the one on the Classic 45 Colt I have just bought and are the mounting points compatible? While we're at it, are there a lot of different forearm lengths between calibers or just a few. I told you guys you'd be sorry you got me started with these H&R single shots and that I would be badk here with a million questions. My new 45 Colt should be here in two or three days and it's worse than awaiting Christmas when you were a kid.

45-70 BC and 38-55 "Target" forends are the same and is longer than the BC Carbine forend,  lengths are in the FAQs in the More Handi Info section.

I just got one.   It's my favorite 'feeling' Handi so far.  Shot it but my scope was way off. Light recoil.  Already dealing for a 454190 mold, have some 2400 powder and the dies are on the way.  You'll really like it.

Yes there a number of different lengths of forends. But they ALL will fit. As long as you not too picky about the width of the barrel channel.

I have two different BC forends. There was also a couple different checkering patterns. The USH gets a longer forend.

The CR forearm on the 38-55 (or any other) makes the barrel look longer, and especially on the short barrels is better proportionately than the long one is IMHO. BTW, the CR one is the same length as the std Handi forearm.
A while back someone had the BC or TM forearm on a shortened barrel and it was getting close to the Mannlicher look, pretty cool.
Put the CR one on a BC and the barrel looks like it it grew 6".
Early checkering patterns wrapped completely under the forearm (very nice), later are just a panel on each side (but still nice).
I just put TDC wood on my TM and it completely changed the 'character'.
So, the ability to swap stocks on these and make yourself a 'custom' is one of the things I really like. Get a stock of each and give it a go!
