Mosin Muzzle brake
« on: December 12, 2011, 05:30:33 AM »
Any of you know of one? I see a lot of them offered for the M44 but not the 91/30. Not looking for it to serve any real purpose other than dress up the end of the barrel since I removed the front sight. Cheaper is better!!!!! Has anyone made the M44 muzzle brake work on the 91/30?

You may want to take a look at muzzle brakes for SKS rifles, they may fit.  Sporter conversions for the SKS are fairly common and often include a muzzle brake that can be mounted onto the barrel the same way the front sight assembly is mounted.  I don't know of any specific muzzle brakes for the Moisons though.

I would not want a brake on any of mine, they are loud enough as is. Cannot imagine the concussion from one with a brake on it

It is mostly to cover the stub on the end of the barrrel. I mounted a weaver rail scope mount and the front sight would show through the scope. When removed you have this little nub that stick up. It doesnt really bother me much, just wondering about a way to dress it up. The muzzle brakes I have seen on the other guns dont look all that bad. Just something I am running through my head at the moment.

There is one available one Amazon.com.
Seriously, go there and search for it and you'll find it. I went ahaed and ordered one along with stripper clips and a rubber butt pad. The reviews were a little sketchy, but for $9.84 I thought I'd give it a try.
My concern is not so much for recoil reduction, but to reduce muzzle flash. My M44 has a 20" barrel and it emits a ball of flame a good 12" from the muzzle. Quite impressive, unless you are shooting over dead grass on a dry day.
