Ruger 10/22 can it be converted to 17hmr

I was told one could change the barrel of a 22 to a 17 barrel and that would allow you to shoot the 17.  Is this true?

barrel change and the charging handle also needs changed a different actions spring can be needed, HOWEVER if you will note all makers have withdrawn all their semi auto 17's from the market. the use of a bottleneck rimfire round in a semi auto is not the worlds greatest idea, yes it can be done, yes it will work, but blowback actions make the chamber dirty quickly (not a big problem the next round just pushes the gunk out of the way with 22 cal) the bottle neck will not self clean they hang up not quiet all the way in the chamber, the 10-22 will fire from an open bold position, usually destroys the case and blows the mag out the bottom. Not really a biggie unless there is someone on your right.

You can do this conversion.

NO a standard .22 LR 10/22 can not be converted to .17 HMR. To convert to .17 HMR you need a .22 WMR 10/22 to start with.

However a standard .22 LR 10/22 can be converted to .17 Mach II. I followed the link posted above and it states that those conversion kits from that vendor have been discontinued. If I remember right the only one that still offers a conversion kit is Volquartsen and it is quite expensive.

Thanks.

Sounds like a bummer.

One I read was a warning to left hand shooters.  I am a left hand shooter.  Stay clear.  I think the explaination of the bottle neck cartridge is the reason they warn left hand shooters.
