Canuk BOOM Stick!
« on: February 08, 2011, 03:06:53 PM »
Hello Gents,

Got this together late last year and just got to the range last weekend, she's quite the little beasty.

It started out as an T/C Pro Hunter (Encore) Pistol in 500 S&W with a 15" ported bull barrel.  I added the Choate Folding stock and got a Leupold Compact M8 2.5X scope mounted up.  She's just under 20" folded, over 29" extended and under 5lbs unloaded.

I'm not too sure as to a name for it, but BOOM Stick will do until something more memorable comes along.  Any ideas?

Anyway, I figure if the robots ever rise up or elephants start rampaging though the streets I'll be set ;)

Thanks for looking and stay safe,

Page

PS, I'm a Canuk so little shorties like this are legal.  They just fall under the handgun category instead of a rifle.

Nice little setup, too bad it wouldn't be legal in the US without some red tape and paperwork ( barrel length and overall to short for a rifle) . What are the minimum barrel and overall length requirements for a rifle in Canada ? Is it legal to hunt with there ?

I agree with dant. You need another inch on that barrel to be legal around here. Perhaps a muzzle brake. Still a nice looking set up.

Thanks for the comments Gents,

Actually in Canada, it's considered a handgun and has to follow all the associated rules.  Here a handgun can have any length you want over 106mm (about 4.20 inches).  So if I was so inclined I could chop or shorten the barrel from 15".

Handguns are considered restricted and can only be shot on an approved range legally.  Additionally, there is no handgun hunting in Canukistan :( So this is basically a really nice range toy over here.

Just to give you an idea how messy the laws can get up here, with the stock extended she's over 26" and therefore over the minimum legal length for a non-restricted (something that can be fired off range and hunted with).  However, with the folder she's a restricted only.  If she couldn't be fired while folded she'd be a non also.

Even better, once a firearm has been classified as a restricted it can not become a non-restricted ever again even if fitted with a fixed stock.

Is your head spinning yet ;)

Yep spinning a bunch. Makes me glad I live south of our northern border. Good luck and good shooting with your new toy. I shoot the 500 from a 20 inch Katahdin Encore. Mild to wild it's a heap of gun.

    I use the same set-up with a Contender and S-16 barrels....not the world's best for holding steady for a pin-point accurate shot...but shor'nuf do carry nice ;D.
