Saw something strange on a Remington made gun...
« on: January 22, 2011, 02:31:54 PM »
I was looking at some H&R's in the shop, and picked up an Illion made gun.  Looking down at the top of the chamber/breech, the chamber butted up to the breech offcenter, like the entire barrel was sitting to far to the right.  The chamber met the breech evenly all the way around, no visible gaps, but it appeared the entire barrel was off center.  It was enough that it was clearly visible at a casual glance, maybe 2-3 millimeters.  Its kinda hard to explain, hope you all can make some sense of what Im saying...Anyway, does this gun need to be sent back before it even leaves the shop?  It is a brand new gun.
I've got to many but never enough!!!!

Funny thing is, that when things dont look right they usually aint right.
If the underlug was welded up crooked or the machining of the pivot is off then everything after that is bad.

Where is QC?  How does an defect so easy to see leave the factory?  Firearms manufacture is an exercise in precision, or it should be.

This was the first Illion made gun I have been able to handle and take a close look at, and I was very disapointed.  Besides the off center barrel, the shallow "V" shape on the bottom of the reciever, where the butt meets metal, was un evenly cut and very rough.  Where the butt met the reciever, the wood to metal fit was terrible.  Sitting next to this gun were two Gardner made guns, and there was no comparison in the quality.  Hopefully this was just an over all sour gun that made it past quality control.  As I said, it was the first Remington  made gun I have carefully inspected.  Hopefully it is not an example of their typical product.
