New to forum and Handi Rifles
« on: January 23, 2011, 07:29:33 AM »
Last October I was scouting out my local gun shop when I saw a NEF Handi Rifle in .30-06 on the sale rack. It was priced at $170 without scope, and since I'd sold my other .30-06 to buy the wife a horse, I bought it and put a 4x Bushnell scope on it.

Then this month, the gun shop had a .223 H&R Handi Rifle on the sale rack for $150. I couldn't pass that up either. I had the same problem another forum member did figuring the twist rate. Patches won't grip the micro groove rifling enough to give an accurate measure. I used a  new brush and came up with 1:9, so I have an idea what to feed it. Next, I'll try and find a local rancher with prairie dog problems.

I'm pretty impressed with the quality and handling of these rifles. Some weekend when the weather is good and the honey-do list isn't bad; I'll take them to the range and sight them in.

One question, what is stubbing?

Welcome, You can find the answer to almost any question that you can ask about a Handy in FAQ's and Handy 101 topics at the top if this section. ear

Found this useing CONTROL F search on the FAQ page.

Stubbing is useing a doner barrel, cutting it off and fitting another barrel, in different ways, inside the doner barrel to create a different firearm makeing use of the lug/hinge pin system of the handy barrel, as the easiest way to get that type hinge system without custom shop services. A do it yourself custom gun project. Some interesting, often scarey, things can be read about if you look for them. ear

Sure looks like it. I could be wrong, though.

Farmer Mike,
WELCOME! You won't find a place with more info or more knowledge in regards to Handi Rifles than you will here on this forum. As Blind Ear said, you can find a lot of info just by spending some time reading through the FAQ's and Handy 101.

At least you got a good deal,  the Pawn shops here want near new price...
$120 for shotguns and $200 for a poor rifle,,   good is $275  and  up

Don't let them give you a bad time about  "Handiholicisum".   I think it would be OK if you  buy a few more,, but only if they are a good price, and you need them...
You now have 2  ----SB2  Frame ,,, that  will be nice if you send one in to get a  factory  barrel.....   http://www.hr1871.com/Support/accessoryProgram.asp
A very nice member was kind and put up some photos of stubbing

DP,

Grunts are serious folks and tend not to understand humor.   But I love Grunts cause their job is to storm the beach & mine was to make the propeller spin in circles. ;D

Well, this is a pretty good bunch of people here; however, I warn you, you better be careful. If you're arthritic or a little slow, they'll steal a good deal before you can slam the action shut on a well used Handi !   ;D

Seriously, I now have 3 Handis after acquiring my first Handi in November of 2010.  I have 2 .44 Magnums and a .223 Handi. (I bought the second .44 Magnum because it was too good of a deal to pass up!)

Welcome !
