K-Hornet reamer?
« on: January 18, 2011, 04:38:41 AM »
Is there a K-Hornet reamer being passed around or available?  Or....is there a member who will re-chamber a Handi barrel? Or...is there interest in getting one to pass around like the .357 max reamer?
While I'm in the quiz mode, has anyone had experience in doing one?  I'm guessing it's not that hard...but I've made some bad guesses before.
thanks!

Which version of the .22 K-Hornet were you thinking of ? 35 or 40 degree sholder angle.
I did not know their were any variations until I started checking into it and doing a lot of searches lately as this has been a project for me that has been stuck on the back burner for twenty years. It's time to get this one rolling again. Yesterday I emailed some Die and Reamer manufactures with some questions so I'm hopeing to find out what direction I will be going with this very soon.

well....I might have to be edgy-cated on the shoulder angle. ??? What angle are the most common dies...say like RCBS, etc?  Is there any advantage you can determine of one over the other?  35 is the "original" isn't it?  Durn, always have to research everything....    oh well.  Thanks for bringing that to my attention... which are you going for?

The drawings I have seen show a 40 degree shoulder See the link for a full drawing
I have 2 22 hornets that I am fixing to re-chamber to this version, not so much for added velocity but in the interest  of longer case life.

I think the 35 degree sholder angle is the original version by L. Kilbourn. That's the version I plan on doing, depending on the information I get back from the manufacturers of the dies and reamers that I emailed and I also have a bunch of info. on the K-Hornet along with all my old reloading books from wayback when I started thinking about doing this project that I need to dig out. I spent hours researching the K-Hornet on the net this last week. I came across alot of stuff I wish I had not found and so on, as you know how info. on the web gets. Like one company's dies have different shoulder angles than the others, same with the reamers, or back in the early to mid 2000's some one had a special reamer cut with different lenght dimensions that was in a reamer rental program and the reloading dies not matching the chamber and so on. That's why I sent out the emails to be 100% sure that I get what i'm looking for.

From what I can dig up...RCBS and Hornady have the 40 degree shoulder in their dies. Nothing is simple...is it?

So far only two companys have answered my emails. Will keep you updated as I find out more information.
RCBS, dies are a 40 degree sholder angle.
Pacific Tool & Gauge Inc., Their standard K-Hornet reamer has a 35 degree sholder angle, but will make it anyway you want it.
