30-30 scope
« on: December 14, 2003, 03:33:13 AM »
I am considering the Simmons 4x handgun scope for use on a 30-30 contender pistol.  Should this pistol scope handle the recoil ok?

I don't have a lot of extra money and see that Midway has these scope for just under $100.  Is there a better option without significant more cost?

Thanks.

Rich

when money allows, i prefer burris scopes. however, my most recent purchase was a simmons 2x6x32 from midway for $119. it's on my 14" 44mag contender. it is doing great so far, after a 100 rnds or so, of stout reloads. it doesn't have the burris quality, but for the price tag, i'm well pleased. might wanna give it a look, especially for the usefulness of having variable power, at a reasonable price. i'd buy it again. 8)

I've got one of these scopes on my 71/2" 480 Super Redhawk and am very pleased with it so far.

:D  I have a 14" 30-30 that has worn a Swift 4X scope since day one with no problems. They are very good scopes that won't cost you an arm& leg.Try one I think you will like them.

The Simmons is a tough scope. Had a 4x on a 45-70 never had any problems. That being said I think a variable might be a little more versatile. I'm not familiar with the Simmons 2x6x32 but the price looks good. I have a Bushnell 2x6x32 Trophy on a 30-06 Encore that works well it runs about $149 new. If you don't mind shopping at the auction sites they can usually be had for well under $100.

No experience with the Simmons, but own several of their 44 Mag scopes on rifles...never a problem.  I see no reason to expect anything less from their handgun scopes.

Like Ronnie, I also own a Bushnell 2x Trophy scope on top of my 14" .375 Win. barrel.  I bought it from Gander Mountain for $139 and have been extremely satisfied with the scope.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)
