Where in northern Illinois are you looking? ISRA range near Kankakee has ranges, Chief City near Pontiac, Aurora has their sportsmen club, Streator has the Sandyford sportsmens club, Ottawa has Buffalo Rock etc.

Lucky, I've been there many times.  Not a bad setup, but 100 yards is the longest range there.  Ranges are 50 feet, 25 yards, 75 yards and 100 yards.  They also have a trap range.  Range fee is $10 and they are open Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 till 4:00.  Also have hours on Thursday, but I forget the hours.
Aim small, miss small!!!

Aurora Sportsmans club is in Waterman IL. south of DeKalb 13 miles I'm a member there  we go 25' to 600 yards, trap, sporting clays,5 stand, and 3d archery. Skeet will be put in this year from what I understand.

It's a 315.00 a year and you need a sponsor to join, but that's not a problem. I can take family members in for free and three non member passes per year and then it's 10.00 per-pass. The nice thing is I can go anytime and shoot.

I have shot at Sycamore a few times and everybody there is always been friendly. The only thing that you are shooting to the west and the sun is in your face and targets at 100 yards in the shaded area.
It would be nice if they were open 10-2 sun would not be such a issue.

Sorry it took so long to get back to your question for me. No, I have never been there, but it looks like you got some good info. The range I belong to is down in central Illinois.

Lake Fork Sportsman's Club has 2 nice ranges. They are about 25 miles from Champaign.

Lots of good folks at Tri-County just outside of Polo- my wife works with one of the directors of the gun club. Rifle ranges 100 and 200 yards. They usually have a free to the public open house end of April or beginning of May, lots of things to do for the family.

Is there a long line of shooters waiting to get a lane?

No, normally you don't have to wait at all.  Just don't expect that on a 60 degree weekend day in October or first part of November (before deer season).  Then, it can get pretty crowded.

That's expected with any range in the fall.  Thanks for the info.  I'll have to look into it.

Luckydawg,

Just an FYI.  They are putting up a 40 lane indoor range in Crystal lake (which is supposed to be done July of 2011)  Talking with one of the people involved in this project he told me 10 lanes were going to be rifle from 75 yards up to 200!  It is going to be built on Rt. 176 behind Knack's.

I got a chubby!

My FFL holder requires any firearms to be shipped to them via another FFL holder.  So, If I make an offer on a firearm please let me know if this is capable of being done from the start.  Please do NOT mark an item "SPF" to me until we "both" are happy with and in agreement on shipping, funds and the transaction in general.   Thanks

If you are in Kendal Co, Try the Barber Greene Club in Oswego. This Sunday is a meeting and paying of dues. You should find a sponsor at the meeting. It is held at the Boulder Hill Civic Center at 2:00 pm. It would be better to show up at 1:00 to talk to people. It is $130.00 per yr. $50.00 joining fee. Best club I know of to be a member. I have been there for 23yrs.  More opportunities as a non member would be Aurora Sportsman Club. Cheapest place for shooting only! as a member would be the Rochelle Conservation Club I have been to all of them. JMO.

What kind of ranges do they have?  Can you give any details?
