Dipping Traps in the cold weather months?
« on: December 16, 2010, 08:43:03 AM »
Hi Folks,

I recently aquired a good number of used traps from a friend of mine that got them at a flea market. although they have a good amount of rust on them, they have never been dyed. I have a garage at work that is kept at 45 to 50 degrees. If I dip these traps and hang them to dry in the garage, do you think that the low temp in the garage would have any effect on the dye? I've always dipped my traps in the summer months but not at 45 to 50 degrees.

I have dipped traps when it was snowing out. Add more coleman fuel than the directions say. Those I dipped in the cold, were used to trap bevaer and otter in Mississippi a few days after dipping.
If you are dipping water traps--no worries.
Though you may want to hang them outside a while before hanging them in an enclosed building.
