Handi Grip....anyone?
« on: November 17, 2010, 02:48:17 PM »
anyone have that stock?

when I saw that NEF was coming out with that, I said I was going to get it..but havent yet. My darling wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her to buy me a Handi Grip stock and forearm set..I've seen a few aftermarket ones too.

gonna put it on my .243..

2nd question....my .243 is wood, but the synthetic should fit without a problem,..right?

I have a HandiGrip stock and like it. Most stocks interchange with no problems. About the only problem I have had is the bolt length, some are a little longer/shorter than others.

Thanks, Dinny

Handi-grip info can be found in the FAQs, you'll need a hard to find 2" button head bolt for it, Midway sells the stock set for $55, but the bolt may have to come from H&R or one of the sources in the FAQs.

As per the only review of this at Midway,

William S of Luckiamute River Valley, ORDate posted: 9/14/2010
"Although not mentioned in the product description, the mounting hardware required is included in the package from H&R. Will need a bit of weight added, for my preference anyway, as it is a bit lighter than the standard pallet wood stock. The recoil pad seems adequate."

Sounds like the bolt is included, I sure hope so, just ordered one.

Mine came from MidwayUSA packaged in a nice box from H&R and the screws for the recoil pad, the button head allen machine screw for the butt stock and the machine screw for the forearm were all packed inside the butt stock.

I like wood, BUT I picked up one of these last month and gotta tell you I really like it!! I put it on my 454. Its the shortest barreled Handi I have and figured the light weight would compliment the 454. IT DOES I LIKE IT!!!

I have 4 Handi-Grip sets. I love them, they are light and very comfortable. I am thinking about swapping the stocks on my newly finished 16.5" .357 max to a Handi-Grip set, but haven't decided yet.

I had a HandiGrip stock on a 444 I order new from Budsgunshop.   I found it a new home before the 444 arrived at my FFL.   I only touched it when removing it to re-ship to its new owner.  Hopefully the plastic touching my trigger finger doesn't affect my shooting too much. ;D  Actually the Handigrip had a nice feel too it, I just can't get used to the look of plastic gun stocks.  Laminated sets are as far I can make myself go away from the traditional furniture.  MAC had a Handigrip on the custom 26" 30-06 he build and if I remember correctly he thought highly of it, so that should be plenty of reccommendation for most folks.

I wasn't too crazy about the appearance of the Handi-grip, but after handling my 6x45 Superlight, I really like it.  ;)

I agree Tim. I also MUCH prefer good set of walnut or even Birds eye maple. But I order this set, kinda on a whim as I needed a few stock sets. I very much like the looks of the thumb-hole stocks. but in a hammer gun like the Handi for anything but target they make the hammer slow to operate. But this style has a huge thumb-hole, allowing for much faster hammer acquisition as well as ambidextrous firing. It's light, fits pretty well and very much compliments the short barreled handis. Once I got it mounted and felt how light and "handi" it made the 454, I was really liking it.

As I mentioned, I have been hunting from a small "chair blind". Its very comfortable light weight and collapses down for handi transportation. It affords a well concealed position and even keeps scent to a minimum. But handling a long barreled rifle inside one isn't so great. This stock combined with the short barrel and the combined light weight make this a new favorite for this kind of hunting.

I'm even considering another short barreled rifle with this stock!!!
