357 and 44 Firing Pins - large or small diameter?
« on: November 03, 2010, 02:06:42 PM »
We know all high power receivers are supposed to have small diameter firing pins.

We know all shotgun receivers are supposed to have large diameter firing pins.

As the 357 and 44 receivers are SB1, do they have small or large diameter firing pins?

I know about calling H&R with the serial number to make 100% sure.

The .357 Mag. I got from Ilion has the small firing pin.

Well that does not help us trying to casually identify receivers.

Then we need to fall back on just simply calling H&R.

And it also highlights the need to keep 357 and 44 mag receivers separated from other SB2 receivers.

Thanks.

The SB1 receiver that mine came with pretty much points out that it is only intended for shotguns, .357 Mag. and .44 Mag. only.
Can't be much clearer than that.

Bill: So all current 357 and 44 and shotgun receivers are stamped like that?

I have one in .44, stamped on the side that it is for .357 or .44 only.  It has the large firing pin.
