.735" 45-70
« on: November 03, 2010, 12:25:10 PM »
Put up a .735" at 100 yards today with my NEF 45-70. 35.8 grains IMR 4198, Hornady 300 grain FNHP, Starline cases, Win Lr primers, 1650 fps, 6.3 inches high at 100 yds, 6.5 inches low at 200 yards.  Not the best ever, (.571") but in there and ready for the season here in Missouri.

good group... I don't think I ever advanced past center of pumpkin at 50yds but I was happy to see a fist-sized hole in the ground behind it filled with orange goop.  I'm gonna test that (on a deer or two) this year with sierra 300gr bullet, 60grs varget, win lg rifle primer, starline cases.  those hollow points go through oak fine so I wonder what's gonna be left of bambi senior?  wanna join the big hole contest?  no one at work does- they're using .25-06, 22-250, .270, 300 Savage... girls.   :P

stuff a bowling pin in the hole if it'll fit and post the pic up for us.

Down here I have no reason to shoot my 45-70 Handi out past 50yds. Actually 35yds would be a long shot. I have punched paper for groups at 50 though. From bench and bag my(actually my wifes) Handi will constantly cut the same hole, although somewhat elongated. Realistically this is MOH&D.(minute of hog and deer)

This, with the Hornady 350's AND the Cast Performance 405's over H4198. ----pruhdlr
