Well - I finally bought a Buffalo Classic 45-70.  Been drooling on them for the last couple years.  Ordered it through a local shop and it arrived today.  Shop owner had never seen one, but thought it was very cool.

Trigger seems nice, but measures at about 5-1/2 lbs.  I'll shoot it first, but may have to lighten the trigger a bit.

The only ammo I have found locally is Remington 300 gr SJHP.  Haven't seen any reports here on that ammo.  I will be traveling this weekend, and will stop by a few other shops to try to find some other flavors to try.

Looking forward to shooting this.  I'll let you guys know how I do.

Thanks for all the Handi info.  Without this forum and all the great people here, I would probably not have bought this rifle.

I'm sorry for you pal! ;)  I can't know your firearms back ground but this caliber is probably the single most favorite of the Handi's/BC's.  It is also the one that drives people cross eyed! ;D  It's fun, deadly accurate, and as controversial as politics.

Have fun with it, but I'd guess it wont be your last.

Congrats on your purchase.  I love mine as I'm sure you will.  I intend to do some mods, but for now, using it standard.  Hopefully, before next summer, mine will have new sights and possibly some other changes.  ;)

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 45-70!  You will be starry eyed and lost in space for a while as you ponder the possibilities.  Bolt guys will look at you like you have lost your mind but they don't know.  EVERYTHING has a trajectory.  Even the latest and greatest short fat ugly magnum wonder cartridge.
Be careful there is no building behind your deer.  The bullet will go through the deer, knock the building down, and stack the bricks for ya.
Car guys will tell you there is no substitute for cubic inches.  They are correct.

I didn't take a shot at a big fat doe this last weekend just because of that. There was a house a couple hundred yards behind the doe at the angle I was at. I just sat there and watched her cross a brush hogged lane and walk onto posted property.
