In need of some ideas from the 45 carbine guys
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:28:05 AM »
I got a 45 carbine with the schnable forearm.  I am looking for different ideas on how to install a sling.  Right now, I am thinking about going with a stock stud and a barrel clamp front (like goes on a 30-30 magazine tube).  I am just looking for some other options.  Thanks.

I have a half dozen or so with the barrel clamp sling studs.  They work much better on the rifles than a forearm mounted stud.  Two reasons, first is that the stud doesn't whack your knuckle when you fire the gun.  Second, and most useful, is that you can sling the rifle on your back, over the shoulder, and the barrel doesn't stick up a foot above your head and hang on every limb and vine you walk under.  You can also remove the stud and screw it straight into the end of the schnable forearm and use it that way.  Eliminates the finger whack, doesn't do much for the hangups.  I have a couple done this way too.

I like the barrel clamps but have not been able to find them for awhile. I just use the sling for carry mostly and on some of my rifles I put the stud between the forearm screw and reciver which works for me as I like to carry with muzzel down. I just run a leather lace threw the studs and its strong enough for my needs. If you have a lace on pad you can just carry the lace out to the forearm stud
