leupold prices from the OpticZone
« on: November 06, 2003, 05:42:37 AM »
As some of you know, Leupold has changed their "pricing policy" by forcing all of their legitimate sellers to sell their products at a fixed price.  Before this happened, sellers like Bass Pro and Cabelas usually had the highest prices, while other sellers like the Optic Zone and SWFA had some of the lowest.  Now that things have changed, sellers like The Optic Zone now have to sell at the same high price as Cabelas, etc.

Based on the foregoing, I got mad at leupold and decided to not buy their products.  In fact, I called Jon at the Optic Zone and was prepared to buy an Elite 4200 (which I love).   The thing is, I still like the Leupold Illuminated reticle more than most, but I ain't gonna pay top dollar for it.

However, Jon told me that, even though I may have to buy the scope at the higher price, Jon would give me a free set of rings and bases with the purchase of the Leupold scope!   Hey, that sounds like a great idea to me because, if I would have bought a Leupold scope at Jon's low price, I still would have to pay extra money to get rings and bases.  That means that if I get the Leupold at the new higher price, it still comes out the same because now I can get free rings and bases.  To put it another way, if I buy a leupold scope from Cabelas, I pay top dollar for it AND I HAVE TO SPEND MORE MONEY TO BUY RINGS AND BASES.  However, IF I BUY FROM THE OPTIC ZONE, I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND MORE MONEY TO GET RINGS AND BASES.  So obviously, it's much better that I buy a Leupold scope from the Optic Zone.

Now the thing is that I happen to already have the scope rings and bases for my rifle.  As such, I wonder if Jon could offer a gift certificate (say worth the same as the rings and bases) towards another scope that I could either buy next time, or the same time.  I say this because I am considering buying a Leupold Illuminated and also an Elite 4200.  In this manner, I personally would love it if a gift certificate would be offered.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with you guys 'cause I thought that this may be of interest for all those Leupold buyers.

Zachary,

We are willing to do several different options!   Below are the 2 options for people to consider:

Buy at MAP pricing and get Free Rings & Bases
or
Buy at MAP pricing and get the equivalent gift certificate of the Rings & Bases or other accessories offered.

Hey Jon, I am glad that it is working out for you.  It does not sound like it will be as bad as it sounded before.

Well Longwinters, it still does not look to good.  Since this has all went down, we have only sold 2 Leupolds, when typically they are our biggest sellers.  I wish if the Nikon's and Bushnell's would pick up the slack, but they aren't.  Hopefully time will tell.

I'll help you out Jon - I'm busy right now at work, but I'm gonna order an Elite 4200 from you next week for one of my other NIB rifles.  I'm still interested in the Leupold with the Illuminated reticle, but I'm not gonna use that scope for a while, so I'm gonna order the Elite 4200 which I'm gonna use within the next month or so.

Actually, I also need a gloss finished scope as well to fit on my Sako deluxe.  I was thinking about the Nikon Monarch 3.5x-10x-50 in Gloss.  I own SEVERAL in the matte finish and I love them too! (For this Deluxe rifle, I would get the Elite 4200, but they don't offer a similar model in gloss with 50mm objectives).

I'll give you a call sometime later this week. :D

I've been singing the praises about Nikon Monarchs and tell them to go online to Jon. Hey, he does have some of the best prices!

Encorerookie, I live in Culloden which is next to Hurricane in Putnam Co. I hunt Lewis Co. The camp owner is from outside Mannington. Question for you. Why the high magnification on the Monarch?  Dave

dave..where i hunt at..the deer move across alot of field edges and i may have a long shot(300) yards, never fired a long shot but its possible..i can reach out there with the 7 mag but i want to be able to see exactly what im shooting at.I know you can still see whether its a buck or not with a lower power but i like the 20 X to glass the fields and i can use the 6 while in the woods... just my personal preference...better to have too much then not enough.....ENCOREROOKIE

4xdakota,

We do not have them on our site, because they are not really popular for some reason.  If you are interested in one our price is $269.00/shipping for the Silver finish.
