Handy + accessories....never comes out even.

I recently bought a barrel off the classifieds, then I found a 280 Handi in a pawn shop.  The problem was I didn't have all my gear.  I just had to shoot them, so I took a scope off my 45-70, and a scope off my rimfire just to see how they would shoot.  Then I found a deal on scopes and bought three.  Of course, I had some of those Weaver mounts that I have to file grooves in to make them work for me.  So I bought a few NEF ones.  Now I've got everything situated, but nothing is sighted in again, and I've shot up most of my ammo sighting in and working up loads.  So I've got to load some more ammo, then sight in, and when I'm done I will still have a spare base and scope, and two more sets of rings.  Not to mention that I have barrel's sharing receivers...

I guess I need another gun.  But what caliber?  If I buy a caliber that I don't have dies for, I will have to start that merry go round again.  And why buy something I already have, when there are so many I don't?

Looks like this stuff would even out one day........... ;D

I say your doing pretty good ;D  About a month ago I tried to buy a set of dies that I don't have a rifle for, nor would I have one in the near future, it was a 7/30 waters.  When you start accumulating stuff that you really don't need...........then you got it bad :D :D

  I know the feeling oh so well, I have more now than I need & probably ever need and I make
resolves and tell myself thats it, no more. Good for a while but something sweet just seems to
drop out of nowhere and the itch returns :o and they are just like pretty wimmins CANT SAY NO  ;D

The only cure for "Handiitis" I have found is when you go to bed at night...take 2 handis and then go shooting in the morning!  Works every time!   ;D

man , am I glad I'm not the only one with that problem ;D I keep changing things till nothing is sighted in , then i go sight them in and start all over again,  as for having things you don't need I was checking my reloading supplies and I have 6 sets of dies that I don't have a gun for, some I never did have a gun for...what was I thinking??? ;D

Yeah right there with the rest of you,  Seems like you never really have a "spare" scope and the one extra you do have is one you don't really like so you always need one..... And trying to explain the delema to my wife isn't the brightest idea.  :-X  Because I didn't need a scope before I bought that last gun I "needed". Yeah it is a problem, But I DO NOT LIKE THE SOLUTION.
Kind of like the chicken and the egg, I have a scope laying here with no gun...(two weeks later)... But now this new gun doesn't need a 4x it needs a 4-16x... OOooofda  makes my head spin.

 I saw a set of 45-120 dies in the Cabellas bargain cave and I have been tempted to buy them becuase Ive allways wanted a 45-120 and someday I might get one and be kicking myself for not getting the dies.  ;D

You mean I hafta have guns that correspond to all those dies?  ::)   I'm doomed.  :'(

I did buy a nice set of used Redding .35 Whelen dies about 10 years before I got a rifle in that flavor, but that one was already a given.  I knew that I would eventually own a rifle in that chambering.

At last count I had 34 sets of dies that I have never had guns for  ??? just hopeing that SOME DAY , and as for Handi stuff  :P ::) ??? 8) :o I'll not even go there .  ;D

I think revbc's approach should be considered. Find a nice deal on a set of dies (or bullets, or brass) for a cartridge you don't have yet. Then you'll have to get another rifle so all that equipment won't go to waste!

yeah, here I sit.  New .38-55 barrel just miutes away, Mail will be here shortly.  3 stock sets and frames waiting, two scopes on order.  I need two barrels???? Which ones??...More Scopes?....Patty needs a second job.....Yeah, believe that.  Hope she never sees this ::) ::)  Seriously, I haven't a clue as to what I want.  Perhaps a 7X57, and if so, I'd sell the 7mm-08.....I think.  Probably not.  Buy first and keep the rest.  Maybe a .500....I like big fat ones.  .444??  Why?  I've got a .45-70.   Oh, Oh, Oh....how about a .45-70 shortie???? ;D ;D ;D  Ya could go nuts with this.  Thanks Tim and a lot of you other guiys.  Four years ago I was a normal person.

Thanks guys, I thought it was just me going crazy in my old age.  In the last 10 months I have;

bought rifle dies for a caliber i never will shot just, to reload for a friend's rifle, although he hasn't asked me to load for him,

Bought several new & used handis just for a stock set or a barrel or a receiver. 

have changed the stock sets on every Handi i own, some more than once.

Every scope I own has been on at least 2 rifles, some scopes on 5 or 6 different rifle.

sold the 45/70 22" barrel that would shoot 3/4" @ 100 yards and kept the barrel that was giving me fits.

and finally, refuse to give up on the bad lug of my 270 win barrel; I WILL  MAKE IT WORK ONE DAY! >:(

PS: Pete, you need a 45/70 shorty, a 444 Marlin and & 32" 45/120, please trust me on this, I know. ::)
