Super Blackhawk Hunter rings for Ultra-Dot
« on: September 10, 2010, 06:22:38 AM »
Hello to all...

Newbie to the site here.  I have a .44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and was wanting to put an Ultra-Dot 30mm dot sight on it.  Could somebody with that setup using the factory rings let me know which height rings they used? Medium, High or X-High?

Thanks!

First off, welcome to our forum ~  ;D

The SBH hunter comes w/1" rings and I believe them to be mediums. I sold mine (short version of long story ~ made the gun too tip heavy for me) so can't chk now. But they produce 30mm rings as an assessory but unfortunately, the lowest would be mediums as makers haven't recognized that there are 30mm streight body/tube optics out here and not just big bell rifle scopes requiring tall rings. On my non-ruger revolvers, I use warne low 30mm Maxima's for mounting the UDs. Of course the weaver style bases offsets some of the advantages of the low warnes ~ but that doesn't apply to your situation.

Be sure to chk if ring spacing is compatible w/the UD before putting out $$. Theres a 5gal bucket in the garage of various sundry things that failed to work out as I had planned.

Thanks for the reply!  I was beginning to wonder about this forum...

I currently have a Burris 2-7x and can agree with it being waaaay too nose heavy (especially with the variable scope weight).

I (like a lot of other folks) tried the B-square mount...waste of $$$ there.  However, I think I'm going to drill and install some small roll-pins to fit down into the half-moon recesses of the barrel, since it looks like that's what the Weigand does.

Hopefully the mediums will work...it's a chunk of coin to throw down if they don't.  I'm getting ready for whitetail season in Okla and need to get this thing setup and sighted soon.

Thanks again!

I added an ultra-dot 1" dia to my redhawk using the factory rings, works great. If you have the cutouts on the barrel, get the rings to fit the gun. 44 recoil doesn't allow for a lot of halfway scope mounting options.
