There have been a few threads lately on which Handi caliber is the most accurate.  I have a piece of software that gives the “Accuracy Potential Quotient” (whatever that means) of cartridge loads.  I think I have deciphered enough of the code and found the formulae that are used by the software.  I plugged the formulae into excel so I could run multiple loads at one time, because the software allows only one load at a time and won’t let me save it (makes me re-type the load each time).

Since I am currently house/chair/bed bound again and cannot go out and shoot, I will use the Lyman #49 book for the loads (has different brand bullets and powder).  Will compare all the loads listed of our Handi Cartridges to see if they match our real-world findings, should be interesting, at least to me.  Understand this is a purely mathematical outcome.

Will be using the cartridges mentioned in “woodsdweller’s thread (most accurate)” as a starting point.  After the first two, I will post the results and add additional results as I do them.  The list so far of the ones TO BE tested.

308 Winchester (revbc, necchi, Doublebass73, PawPaw)
7mm-08 Remington (revbc, necchi)
45-70 Government (gendoc, myarmor, Doublebass73, GeorgiaDave, Swampman)
357 Magnum (myarmor, Doublebass73)
30-06 Springfield (myarmor, Mac11700, Doublebass73)
280 Remington (Mac11700)
243 Winchester (Mac11700)
25-06 Remington (Mac11700, myarmor)
338-06 A-Square (Mac11700)
223 Remington (mdi, moorepower)

Feel free to add your own entries, if they are not in the Lyman #49 book, I will try and find them in the other books, think I have all the current books.

Thanks Guys and Dolls, just trying to get adjusted to the meds, some work but with side effects, so they have me try something else.  One of them makes me fuzzy and dizzy, (not something I should be shooting with), almost fell out of my chair and didn't know it.

I hope you are up and about soon Mike. Thanks very much for compiling the list... it's interesting. No surprise that the 30-30 is near the top of the list. ;D

First off, get well, and don't over do it. This is an interesting thread. Do you have a link to the thread or article that determines how well a round can shoot? One factor I bet he did not look at is availability of quality brass, "Laupua". It would be fun to get your hands on some RWS for the Hornet to see what it's true potential could be. I would have to think the .223 with a 52 grain flat base bullet would be up there. There is alot more powder to work with and Lapua brass.

Added the Lyman#49 data for 7.62x39mm.

moorepower: The only loads I shoot in my 7.62x39mm are Lapua brass handloads.  Which 52 gr bullet would you use in the 223 Rem?

The Berger would be my prefered, but I don't have the # on me. Have you tried the Hornady 123 grain V-Max in your 7.62X39? How do you figure APQ? Try the 7.62X39 in a 1-17 twist barrel with a 112 BIB flatbase bullet.

Hey Marv!

DJ was just asking about you last weekend.  She misses watching the guys shoot and talking "Guy" stuff.  She wishes I had friends like you around here.  I told her I still have you guys here on this web-site, and EVOC-one is almost nearby.
