722 .300 Savage doing fine!
« on: July 06, 2010, 03:55:19 AM »
I developed a couple solid .30-30 level loads and she shoots them as well as she does full power loads. 36 gr of IMR 3031 under Speer or Sierra 150 flat points gives a flat 2400 fps and consistent sub 2 inch 3 rounders at 100 yards( open sights). On thing does surprise me though.Although the magazine will allow me to seat bullets FAR beyond the listed max OAL of 2.6, this rifle doesn't like it when I seat the bullets closer to the rifling.First rifle I've had that didn't.Gonna try some 170's next. Most of my hunting is done at ranges under 100 yards and occasionally I get a 200 yarder. 30-30 level  loads are fine for that, but I will develop some good full power loads just in case...

Interesting post.  I have the same model rifle and was thinking about some reduced loads so I'll be watching for updates.
