22" 45-70 (thanks Spanky)
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:32:32 PM »
Got the 22" barrel in from Spanky today. Only took one shim (aluminum can) to fit perfect. It's short and quick handling. I plan on carrying this as my "why is that bear standing that close to me?" rifle. I'm really surprised at how short and quick handling it seems to be.  For perspective I've attached a picture of it beside my 18" barreled model 94 30-30 (which is supposed to be a quick handling brush gun).

That's a nice looking setup Kevin... it shoots great with 405gr. hardcast. I think I still have some bullets for reloading if you want 'em... let me know and I'll send 'em out to you.

Great looking rifle.

Is that the long forearm from a BC? It looks good with the 22" barrel.

Yep. I acquired the action and stock from a local fellow who ruined his BC (who DOESN'T know you have to clean a barrel after you shoot BP?).  Refinished the stock the way I did on my own BC, this one out of neccesity instead of desire. I have a 20 gauge barrel that I got off here that fits it perfect that I hope someday to stub into a 25-20.

You should have the ruined BC barrel bored to .50-70.

I bet that "ruined" 32" barrel would sell pretty quick.

I don't have it. All I got was the stock and action. I saw the barrel and it was bad. Rust on the outside and inside. Alot of the case coloring is off the action, I may try to redo.

Stripped it with Formby's furniture refinisher and then put multiple coats of Danish Oil on. Let it dry between coats. Took about a month to get it done to look like it is now (think it was eight coats).
