BC questions
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:08:17 PM »
Hi Guys

After reading back through a lot of posts and the FAQ, it seems the BC in 45-70 was being fitted with the wrong height front sight, the .584 instead of the .494. One of the posts I read suggested the .584 was the right one for the 38-55, and for some reason they were being put on the other model. These posts were dated back in 2008, and so I was wondering if anybody knew what sight the current crop of BC 45-70's were coming from the factory with?

And while I'm asking, my BC is arriving just over 4 weeks  ;D, and I was wondering is there anything else I should be checking on the rifle before I take it home from the gunshop... just in case.

regards

Rich

Aussie,

Can't help you with the front sight but I have seen a few posts on new guns that had issues with the packaging causing the muzzle to have the blue scuffed.  Would also check the lockup as a couple of folks have had issues with that on new guns.

Enjoy your new long gun.

Yes, check lock-up,,
Bring a philips screwdriver with you and pull the forearm, grasp the stock grip in one hand and the barrel just in front of the frame and firmly try to move the barrel in a sideways motion, there should be NO movement.

I just bought mine in March or April but it had been in the store for a year and it had the wrong front sight. I ordered the .494 and changed it myself.
Just trying not to do anything stupid. (And failing miserably.)

It will be good to hold it out straight & square to see if the front sight isnt sitting crooked (as in the dovetail cut off center).
