Aluminum VS carbon crossbow arrows
« on: June 24, 2010, 01:29:46 PM »
I have both carbon and aluminum arrows and what I found is niether really seem to work better than the other (accuracy wise) I don't know the speed or power though but I had sighted it in with aluminum arrows and when I shot the carbon arrows they were about 6 inches higher consistantly at 25-30yds (BTW I have a red dot scope) at about 15 yards and under they were close enough aluminum or carbon doesn't really matter they are pretty close but once you get to 20-30yds it is enough to worry about. with the carbon arrows (after sighted in for them) were hitting great at 30yds I hit the dead center which is about the size of a nickle twice but sadly at the end the string that is wrapped around the center of you main string came undone and I can't shoot it now but I want to know what you guys think between the 2 types.

I use both carbon and aluminum arrows and they all hit the same place.  I build my own arrows so they are all very close to the same weight.

One issue you get with carbon that you dont with aluminum is if the carbon fibers break in the arrow you will not know it

"at the end the string that is wrapped around the center of you main string came undone " this is the serving and is used to protect the string. it is the same as on a vertical bow. you should be able to take it to any bow shop and have them repair it for you.

I'm not really sure but I would think carbon arrows wouldn't be as good in windy conditions because of the weight difference but thats just a theory. "this is the serving and is used to protect the string. it is the same as on a vertical bow. you should be able to take it to any bow shop and have them repair it for you." I figured they would i'm pretty sure it was because how much I shot at one time without any lube on it I will definitly start putting lube on it from now on.

The aluminum and carbon arrows should weight about the same. Your bow must have a cernten weight arrow and you shouldnt go any lighter ir it will be like dryfireing your bow.

all my arrows weigh with in about 10 grs or each other

I dont know about the maker of your bow but my tenpoint doesnt recomand putting any lube on the servings. They want your to lube the tring it's self and put a few drops of lube on the shooting rail.

I use micro-loin (something like this) oil and put 3 drops on each side of the rail and rub it in, this last for a while

They really don't weigh much different but from shooting them the carbons seem lighter than the aluminum and I have a Horton summit 150 and it said to put lube on the rail i'm not sure if it said on the string or not. I will have to break out the manual if I can find it

not sure if they do lemme check.... I do not know about the carbon arrow having a brass insert but I will see if i can't find out. I have 2 brands of aluminum arrows the ones my bow came with and some camo easton crossbow hunter arrows the camo ones say "XX75" and "2219" the horton ones my bow came with do not say this or anything like this niether does the carbon ones (I shoulda kept the box) I will check out the website. and what I just realised is the arrows my bow came with are about a 1/3 or maybe a 1/2 inch shorter than the others is this a problem?
