Barrel 'type' question
« on: June 30, 2010, 06:55:44 AM »
I was just looking through the barrels on Ed's page.  Under the collectable barrels listing I see some barrels listed as 'type I' / 'type II'   and some that don't have either designation.  Could someone explain the differences to me.
Thanks in advance for your help,
JR

Contender barrels are "typed" depending on the year of manufacture, and therefore the "style". Such things as the shape of the barrel lug, sights, barrel shape (octagon), even how the name is stamped on the barrel can tell you what period it was manufactured.
Thanx Barry, but I'll keep my guns, money and freedom, you can keep the "change".

Here you go guys. This is about Octagon barrels.
http://specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/387102585/m/1041006425
this is a table describing manufacturing characteristics of types I thru V
it's on another forum, and I could just copy and paste it here but because of
copyright I guess I better not do that.

I believe you can go there w/out being registered. If not, sign up, it just takes a minute.

J, my avatar is from a contender grip like the one in your avatar.

For the record the Specialty Pistols Forum is a no-go unless you are a registered member.  They let you browse the forum topic lists, but when you click on something you want to read ... bammo (unlike GBO).
As an aside I never really understood that mentality, but there ya go.

But thank you for the link!

It's worth signing up, it doesn't cost anything but a few mins of your time. If you want to know anything Contender, you'll find it there.

Thanks a lot for that link, there's a lot of good info there.  I'm surprised I'd never run across it before.
