Ruger Single Six .17 HMR
« on: May 16, 2010, 02:13:27 PM »
I received this new in the box Ruger Single Six for my  43 birthday 5 years ago. This was my first experience with the .17 HMR and I gotta tell you, I love everything about it. I enjoy the feel of it, the way it handles, and the accuracy is really surprising. Recoil is minimal of course, but the crack you get from it when you pull the trigger is kind of exciting. Anyone else here had any experience with these? I do love Ruger single actions of all types.

Probably the only Ruger single action I don't have.  Price has always been an issue.  I have a 44 special on the way that is cheaper than I could get either the .17 HMR or 327 for.  I will have to pick up a used one when one comes available.  Or a convertible if Ruger ever makes the .17HMR and .17 Mach II convertable.

Back in the early 80's I bought a Single Six convertible new in the box. I loved that gun, but it was stolen when someone broke into the house. Now I am a strong advocate of gun safes. Display case style gun cabinets just make it too easy for thugs. The price on the NIB convertible was 200.00!

Ruger DID make .17 convertables actually.  There was a small number of .17 Hunters made that shipped with both cylinders.

Picked up a pair of the blue 17 HMR guns when they first came out... Even stumbled on to a 17M2/17HMR Convertible Hunter....  In the last year there were limited runs of 5.5 and 6.5 inch Stainless Single Six 17 HMRs....

Here are my 17M2/17HMR and 22/22M hunters....

Thanks a whole lot.  Looks like I missed out on the 17 convertible and you just had to bring up some of the ones I have been trying to ignore......  Now I have more looking to do.  I feel the tug on my wallet already!! :P

Since the price of the 327 is quite high, I was thinking of shipping my 32-20/32H&R convertible in and having a 327 cylinder made for it.  That would be fun.  I also have a 2nd 32 mag cylinder for my single six that I am going to modify.  Just got my 327 brass but haven't had a chance to play with it yet.  HBWC seated upside down in 327 brass should be just about perfect fit in single six cylinder.  That should flip a chuck quite nicely.

Brownells has single six cylinders in 17HM2.  I bought one for my single six 17HMR.  Work very well.
