Project gun for Ultimate Revolver.
« on: June 04, 2010, 05:58:40 AM »
Ok guys, I have always considered myself lucky.  You will too when you hear about this!  I dropped in to Jay's the other day, just nosing around and saw a single action on the second shelf of the used gun counter.  I asked to see it just because it was there and found myself holding a 7 1/2", all blue, Colt SAA.  (no pics yet)  I looked it over then turned over the price card; $600!  This got me interested and I told them to hold it.  I went back yesterday and looked it over closer and found that it has a nice 'ring' around the cylinder and needs a new cylinder locking bolt.  It also has a little cosmetic issue where someone got over enthuesastic while polishing and dished the side of the grip frame just a little.  Ok, it's not perfect, it's a shooter.  Checked the cylinder throats and found them to be .455.  I can live with that, just size my bullets .454 instead of .452.  So I talked to the owner and pointed out the problems with it and the fact that someone may buy it and be dissatisfied with it, OR he could sell it to me and I would just fix it and use it for a 'shooter' Colt.  Well fellas, I put that Colt in layaway for $475!  Now at that price I can use it for a 'project' gun and either cut this barrel or put a short (3 3/4" or 4") barrel on it.  This is what I have wanted.  A fine, short barreled, carry, single action.  Hope I can find a short 'take off' Colt barrel somewhere but if I can't, I'll use a Uberti or whatever 'target of opportunity' I can find.  Time to sell a couple of things and get it on the way home.  Oh Boy, Oh Boy!!!!  44 Man

You get the 'lucky dog' award for the day! ('course, you make your own luck)
It would be cool to see pics of the project each step of the way to keep us mere mortals revved.
Hey, 'frugal' as I am I would have gone for that one too......

.44 Man, that is a good buy. At that price you can afford to spend a little money on it. Colts are special, I'll bet you like it. Thanks for sharing & congratulations.
