22 hornet /20 ga combo
« on: June 08, 2010, 04:00:20 PM »
i was in a pawn shop looking for some ammo for my sks they did not have any . but i did see a H&R in 22 hornet that also came with a 20 ga barrel mod choked. if i stuck around another few minutes i would have bought it.had a $100.00 price tag on it stock was real bad there cheap to get. ammo was i thought the roof one place i stopped at has the 22 hornet don't remember what brand it was but holy smokes box of 50 43.98 that sounds outrages to me . is it ? your opinions might make go back and get it or not. it would be a predator rifle / plinker. so what do you guys think almost worth the price of the 20 ga alone

The hornet barrel alone is worth the total price.  If the last three digits of frame serial numbers match the the barrels I'd say it is a good deal, but if not as long as it functions I would probably pick it up.  I think it is a good combo but def. have to reload for the hornet.  Just my opinion.

i have a lee challenger outfit that i have never used yet along with a old lyman press. yes that would be a round to reload for sure at the prices i have seen for that round. that round good for 200 plus yards for dogs and coyotes ?

I would have bought it as long as the  barrel had a good bore, crown, and locked  up tight. That's a steal.

i don't have a real good predator rifle my sks is not a dead on rifle and a 50 cal muzzle loader is not ether. if i got it im sure i could get a 223 barrel and shoot cheaper . but i sure wont recoil flinch with a 22 hornet

I wouldn't count on it at 200. I shoot a Topper 158 and use it to deer hunt sometimes, but my limit is 100 yards. I just don't trust it past that.

That being said, I would buy the combo in a heart beat and give her a whirl with some V-Max .224 bullets.

I have a 1987 hornet barrel. The longer I shoot it the better it gets. For anything as big as a housecat or bigger, 100 yds is a snap. Mine will be a 200 yd gun with just a little more "break in" and no cleaning it seems.
I didn't understand makeing the gun accurate until I found this site. Get a Lee Calsic relaoder for the hornet and the price per box for ammo goes out the window. The Lee calssic reloader with the dipper and neck sizeing loads some real good shooting rounds.
