Bushnell 3200 v Trophy
« on: November 03, 2003, 04:40:03 PM »
How much difference is there between the 3200 models and the Trophy models. Both seem to be priced almost the same. Also would you mount a silver scope or a blue or matts scope on a stainless gun. Any glare from the silver scopes in the woods? I am toying with buying a Marlin 30-30 stainless 336SS or Blue model, which scope would most of you put on this gun a stainless gun?

Well, thanks to Graybeards advice, I bought my first 3200 Elite over a year ago. It is awesome. Since then I have moved up to the 4200 Elite. Nothing compares to the Elite series, and the lifetime warranty is a great plus, all tho I feel I will never need the warranty, things do happen. I am not very familiar with the Trophy line, but you can't go wrong with the elite. The raingaurd coating on the Elite is a definate advantge. As for color, I personally like the stainless & silver combo myself

Matte blue scope & rings over stainless looks pretty good.  I have the combo on 2 Ruger 77's so there's no base.

I put Matte on everything I own. Just prefer the subdued look of it and for a hunting gun which most of mine are I like the reduced glare.

The Trophy line of scopes really are excellent scopes. But the coatings on the Elites is superior and makes them well worth the money if there is one in the power range you want and generally there will be.

For the lever gun I'd get a low power variable. Absolutely no reason to need a 9X top end on such a gun. Max it out at 4.5-6X and you'll get wider FOV and all the scope you need.

The Elite 3200 is well worth the extra money.  They are clear, brighter and offer the rainguard feature.  As for color, I live the silver scope and mounts on a stainless steel gun.  I have a Browning Stainless Steel Stalker with all silver and it really looks sharp.  I guess that is me.  I like to look good while hunting, so if I don't get a deer, I can look good.

The Optic Zone, so if I wanted to stay all silver the only scope I could use is a 3x9x40, do you think that 40 is too big for a 336 Marlin?
I don't see any scopes on your site in silver with a smaller appature or size with less power than 3x9's. I'm really looking at Bushnell's this time around in 3200, do you think this scope is too big for this gun? Also with a 3x9x40 what height rings do you suggest, I like my scopes low as I can get them. If you have a smaller scope in silver with a 2x6x32 or fixed four power, I would look at this. Thanks

I agree with Graybeard, a 3-9x40 might be a little big for the Marlin 336SS, with only a 20" barrell, the scope is going to look big and the higher power will not be needed.  One that comes to mind is a Leupold M8 2.5x28 Scout Scope in Silver finish.  This scope is specifically designed for the classic lever-action rifles.  Other than that is it slim picking on small silver scopes.

Thanks for all your replies. Slim pickings is right, but I still may go with the 3200 in the 2x7x32 matt finish. Would have been nice if they made this in silver but what the heck.

Cojo,

I have an Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x-32mm on my .375H&H and it works GREAT!  In fact, even with 300 grain bullets, my .375 puts 3 shots within ONE-QUARTER OF AN INCH AT 100 YARDS!!!!  How's that for durability and dependability?   Actually, I just got back from a hunting trip and I shot 2 wild hogs with it - super scope, especially for the money.

I thought that maybe this $200 Elite 3200 scope would not be able to handle the recoil of a .375H&H, but it did - and it did it well.

In closing, the Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x-32 should be it for you!

I bought my first B@L 4200 Elite in 6 X 24 today and put it on my Bushmaster Varmint Special. I looked thru the Leupold and several other brands and the Elite was the brightest and clearest. I've always been a Leupold guy and this is the only scope I own that isn't a Leupold. I can't imagine it not holding up to the recoil on an AR but I'll withhold judgement till I put some round out from under it. I was happy with it on the range today, though. The click movements were very precise.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Yes, it has the Firefly reticle, and it works just as advertised.  The only thing that I don't like is that it is green, and I like red.  Also, my other illuminated scopes have the illuminated part in the middle of the cross hairs, while the Firefly has them on the outside part.  Also, during the day, the black 3-2-1 reticle is a little too thick for my taste.

Still, the Firefly is much better than no illuminated reticle at all - but I think that I prefer electronic illuminated reticles better.

I've been looking for a low powered scope  for a dark(low light)  timber rifle. And, I 've been curious as too which better(FF vs Luminated). Thanks Zachary All other opinions welcome :D
