Man these things are EXPENSIVE!  Like $500+ spinning reels.  Does anybody have one or can tell us if it's worth the price?

I agree with you on their price.       I don't have one, but I am willing to speculate on their being pricey due to the fact of all that metal to machine or maybe because of the name.  I don't know. :?   Overall, I think they are probably worth it to some, but as for myself, I have a few Penns that I'm happy with for whenever I go salt water.  For freshwater fishing, if I recall correctly, I use(d) the Cabela's rod that has the line go through the center of the rod instead of using guides.  I coupled that with a Mitchell spinner reel and I think about 200yds of Power Pro's 20lb test at 8lb dia.; it did it's job well for a few rainbows I've caught in past years.  Haven't really gone fishing for a while though, so my calculations on what exactly I have currently may be rusty.

Patriot,

So what kind of Penns do you use?

I own a few Slammers and some SS (for Spinners).

These are the ones I would take out for salt water:

Penn Intl. V Series 30 VSW, coupled with a Penn Intl. Tuna Stick Series rated up to 100lb. test.

Penn Senator Series 12/0, which has the Seeker Black Steel Graphite and is also rated for up to 100lb. test.

The Senator would be for the larger game, and the 30 VSW would be for the smaller game.

These are the only ones I have.  I don't really go fishing often anymore, as I have invested more in target shooting, reloading, etc.  So that is the main reason why I don't have a larger assortment of tackle.  But I'm looking forward to using them again maybe this year.  Just have to wait until the makos come around again.
