Patty and I snuck away this weekend to relax, do a little shopping, buy some stuff for her employer and to do some "Handi Lookin fer".
Patty was getting her hair cut and I wandered into Dunham Sports in Escanaba, MI to see if they had anything interesting in their gun racks. No, but the interest was behind the counter. A mature, graying, and very knowledgeable guy. Not the kid that thinks he knows it all. They didn't have anything I wanted, but business was slow, Good Friday, and he was amiable and wanted to talk. We spent a mutually happy half hour looking at guns and talking about others. They don't carry reloading components, so I asked where I might find some. He said the closest and best place was in Powers. I'd guess 25 - 30 miles west on U.S. 2.
Named "J's". Not to be confused with Jay's in Lower Michigan. "J" is Jeanette Nowack, owner, Lady In Charge.......and....she know's her stuff. I won't try to guess a ladies age, but Jeanette is a senior. She's a hands on Competition shooter and hunter. She's also one of the nicest, down to earth persons I've ever met. Anyhow, this fine lady happened to have at least 25 - 30 kinds of powder, plus bullets, dies, etc., but also had primers.....all of them....said her large pistol came in Yesterday. We scoffed up on a lot of bullets and powder and Patty even got a benefit cook book Jeanette helped put together. Oh yeah, she's an H&R dealer, and has some nice goodies in stock. Thank God, nothing I needed. My "Gun Allowance" is toast for this month and probably the next two.
Anyhow, any of you Handiholics traveling that way stop in and say "Hi" to Jeanette. This is an "Old Timey" neat place to be.
Your tour guide,
Pete
I've got to go to Marshfield, WI in May or June for a cancer check, and It'll put me in front of her door, and I'll be glad to see her again and stock up.
