H&R / Remington relationship
« on: March 25, 2010, 04:36:26 AM »
This question is probably old news on this forum. What relationship does H&R have with Remington Arms? I recently sent my Handi-Rifle in for warranty work. When it was returned it was in a Remington box and the repair work had been done by Remington Arms. I think I remember reading somewhere that Remington had bought out H&R. Am I correct?....By the way....I'am very satisfied in the way the repair work was handled...The people were very pleasant to deal with and the turnaround was two weeks. I sent it in beause it wouldn't fire. The repair report said they cut the hammer slot, reamed the firing pin pocket, replaced the striker/lifter, replaced the hammer, the hammer spring, and trigger extension...I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet but they tested it and reported that it was working alright ....We'll see

Yes, it's kinda old news, Remington bought up H&R/NEF, Marlin, etc. etc.  Good or bad?  Don't know yet.  It seems almost like they're phasing out H&R to make room for their own line of single shots....Just my opinion, not fact.  For example, if I had anything to do with it, I'd get .357 maximum manufactured now in both Handis and leverguns.  I'd get .45LC, ,357, .30-30, and .44 moving.  What's up?  Why are they deliberately starving a demanding market?

Yup,  Remington acquired Marlin/H&R in December 2007.

Pete,

Just what single shot is that? If you're referring to the Spartans(Baikal), Remington quit importing them over a year ago.

O.K., I know that.  It just seems as if they're quietly killing the Handi Rifle.  Gonna bring out a new Rem one pop?  Perhaps like the Ruger 1 and 3?

Thinkin about it, it wouldn't be the first time someone bought out the competition just to get rid of it.

Personally I think they're just biding their time until the economy turns around a bit......and I think it must be....I found a whole shelf full of CCI rifle primers at BiMart today, all they've had for the last two years is 209s except for a few Rems they got in once!!  :o ;D ::) :D

private money management fund CERBERUS is the owner of most firearm makers if it was any other product the government would be screaming monopoly and rounding up an investigating panel. Makes me wonder whats really going on.

The CEO of CERBERUS is a second amendment supporter, and vying for pres. of the NRA.  It's entirely possible they just though firearms were a good investment.............

I can't see anything but good that has come of Remington's take over of H&R.  The quality is better and the customer service is awesome.  I see no reason to believe that Remington is phasing out the Handi Rifle or coming out with a single shot of their own..

Same here. They now own an established brand with a long history of making single-shot firearms (I know it's not the original H&R, but for marketing purposes, that makes little difference). Seems to me Remington has that base is covered really well. Heck, marketing a new "Remington" single-shot might lead to what? Marketing a new "Remington" lever gun to replace the Marlin 336? Naw, I suspect they are happy to be diversified with the different brands. It gives them more long-term flexibility. JMO though.
