BC range report
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:45:30 AM »
Took the BC to the range last week along with some Hornady gummies.  Had just mounted a Bushnell 1.5 - 4.5 black powder scope on it.  Would have been relatively pleased with a 3.5" group.  What I ended up with was a .35" group c-c.  This thing continues to amaze me.  Followed FACs guidelines and put rest under hinge.  Also used a shooter's friend slip on to soften up the metal butt plate edges.    FYI, the wifey got me a Lee Classic loader in 45-70 for CHRISTmas.  Didn't look at the seater till today.  It is designed for pointed bullets and will load the flex tips just fine.  Now off to the reloading bench for more fun.
This is the day the Lord has made.  I choose to rejoice and be glad in it.

Good to read about another 45-70 BC fan!  I have a 32" BC barreled Handi rifle and have great success shooting cast bullets in it with TB. Low recoil and scary accurate. A great combo for plinking loads.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, with the size and weight of 45-70 slugs I'll bet those "plinking loads" you make up with TB, when put into the vitals (heart lung area) of a whitetail, would put it down quickly AND permanantly....<><....:)

I bet you're absolutely right! 330grains at 1100fps might not be a 300 yard load but will work fine at shorter ranges.  :)  Now if I could only convince the State of Indiana to let me use it.  ::)

Thanks, Dinny

Good shooting Handirandy.  My BC is one of my fun guns to shoot at the range.  Mine has never grouped as well as yours, but thats probably not the gun's fault... ::)  It certainly can outshoot me....
