pointed bullets for .444
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:13:48 PM »
I am planning on purchasing a .444 to use during the primitive weapons season here in Louisiana.  I have seen Hornady's flexible tip bullets but would like to reload.  Does anyone make a pointed bullet in .429?

Thanks
Mike

Welcome Mike
The Hornady's are the only pointed bullets I'm aware of.

Mike lets just make a wildcat out of that 444.  How about a 444x45-70?  ;D

There you go Mike!  ;D That would get you up there with your 450 Ackley!

This is a 404 jeffery bullet .423 diameter 400 grains.

Talk to Randy & tell him you NEED some .429 diameter for test purposes.  ;)  Only .006 larger.

Those Hornady pointy bullets sure gave the old 30-30 some new authority.  Watched KP and his son take two nice Caribou last fall with a 30-30.

Doug,

I have a better suggestion, you should just give me your new 375jdj and I can use the 210 or 235 grn Triple Shocks!!!

Yep, Sourdough the Hornady "gummies" have impressed me in my 44 mag marlin, and 35 Remington.

Guys i'd go for the 444x45-120 but the bed of my pickup is only 8 ft the extra rounds would be hanging over the tailgate too far.  ;D

Hornady's rubber bullets don't really offer anything.  You'll have to use Hornady LE brass or trim your Remington .444 brass back considerably to use them.  It's all just a way to sell us something new that offers nothing we didn't already have.

You're welcome to use it anytime. I didn't know Barnes made a 375 210 grain.   I've been looking at those 235 triple shocks real close.  That would be very deadly in the 375JDJ!  That combo would kick some serious ass!

Ive had 44 Mags and a 444 Marlin. I question how well the .429 bullets would hold together at speed in that wildcat.

I'd probably use the 355gr BTB in the 120 wildcat.

Doug, I'm not sure they still make the 210 grain.  I have used it in the original X bullet and took several animals with it.

I guess I will load Barnes pistol X bullet in the 444.

I don't see any advantage of the expensive 225gr XPB over the 265gr FTX, that's assuming you can get 2450fps with it, the FTX has a much better SD of .205 compared to .175 for the XPB.
