Wolfe Spring installition
« on: March 13, 2010, 02:51:25 AM »
I got the new spring from Midway for my 30-30. Is this a do it yourself job? Looks like the pins in the rifle push out to the left side. It also looks like I need some brass punchs. The rifle shoots fine with soft primers so I guess theres no hurry.Or do you think I should leave well enough alone? Mike

I am getting ready to do the same thing.  When i did my trigger job, i didn't use brass pins.  I used a nail set & it did not leave a mark on the pins & the little cup helps keep it on the round pin head.  I have a 35 whelen that has had some mis fires.

Mike,
You might want to take a look at some of the postings in the FAQ regarding trigger jobs. It should help you with advise on removing the pins. Here's one of the links I've used from Perklo: http://perkloafm.com/downloads.html Just click the I have read and agree button and then look for the Handi-Rifle Trigger Work part 1 and 2.

I hate messing up parts. You get away with using poor tools just enough to think you are OK, then it goes badly and you wish you hadnt. If you dont have soft punches at least put a hard punch in a .22 case. Or even go to the hardware store and buy some brass machine screws and bolts to use as punches.

Its intimidating the first time, make the slave pin and you will be a master by the second time!!

If you do a trigger smooth-up while your in there go easy, don't remove any material, just smooth up contact surfaces.

its not hard at all, its simply uncharted territory... you CAN DO IT!!
